How often should I boil my cup?
It is important to sanitize your DivaCup by boiling it for 5-10 minutes before first use. Place it in a metal whisk and immerse it in a pot of boiling water (continuous rolling boil). Set a timer, always use enough water so that the pot doesn’t boil dry, and never leave it unattended!
While it’s recommended that you boil your cup at the end of each period, it is not mandatory. Some consumers don’t boil their cups at all (after initial sanitization), as regular cleansing with soap and water can be sufficient to maintain the integrity of the medical grade silicone.
Boiling your DivaCup at the end of each period is not mandatory — just a recommendation.
When should I replace my DivaCup?
As the DivaCup is a personal care product, we recommend that you inspect it regularly for any signs of deterioration. This could include a sticky or powdery film, tearing, severe discoloration, or odor.
Deterioration of your menstrual cup is dependent on vaginal pH, how well and often your cup is cleaned, and what cleansing agents you use. The DivaCup lifespan is long, but also unique to you and your period experience.
If you notice any of these, or if you experience irritation, we recommend replacing it with a new one. Our general guideline is that a DivaCup can last up to several years when cared for properly, but ultimately, it is up to the consumer to decide when it is necessary to replace the cup.
My DivaCup is discoloured. How do I clean it?
Discoloration will depend on the uniqueness of each person’s menstrual blood and how you clean the cup. Do not soak your DivaCup in hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, or other cleaning agents – these interfere with the integrity of your cup.
Rest assured; a discolored cup will not impair the functionality of it. It is still entirely safe to use.
Help! I can’t remove my DivaCup.
It can take some time to get the hang of inserting the cup, as well as removing your menstrual cup. However, the vaginal canal is an elastic, muscular tube only about 4-6 inches long and there is nowhere for the DivaCup to get “lost” inside of you. The vagina does not connect to other parts of the body.
When inserted correctly, the DivaCup should sit low at the base of the canal, held in place by the vaginal walls, with the base of the cup within easy reach. Always remember to pinch the base of the cup to break the seal before removing the cup.
If you’re still having trouble, take a deep breath and try to relax before trying again. Sometimes getting in a different position, like crouching in the bathtub or with a leg up on the side of the tub/toilet, can give you a better reach.
