Getting Started
Try not to insert your DIVA™ Cup right before bed, especially the first few times. If the cup isn't fully open, it can shift higher than you expect, which can make removal trickier in the morning. Don't worry, it can't get lost! But for the first few uses, it's easier to practice when you have a bit of time to make sure it's positioned correctly.
How to insert your DIVA™ Cup
When you're getting ready to insert your DIVA™ Cup, take a moment to relax your muscles and breathe. It helps more than you might think! As you insert, aim the folded DIVA™ Cup back toward your tailbone—not straight up. This follows the natural angle of your vaginal canal.
Keep your wrist straight as you insert. If your writs curls upward into a "J" shape, the DIVA™ Cup usually follows, going up instead of back
Go slow, stay calm. If things aren't feeling right, take a break and try again later.
To make sure your DIVA™ Cup creates a leakproof seal, grip the base (not the stem) and give it a full 360° rotation in either direction. Another option is to insert the DIVA™ Cup about halfway, then rotate it a full turn as you push it the rest of the way in. This helps it open fully and stay secure all day.
Positioning
Sometimes your DIVA™ Cup will feel like it opens as you insert it (totally normal!). But just because it feels open, it doesn't always mean it's fully expanded.
Once the DIVA™ Cup is inserted, gently slide your finger between the outside of the cup and your vaginal wall. Press lightly on the sides and give it a small twist in either direction. This helps the cup fully open, makes rotation easier, and ensures a proper seal so you can go about your day with confidence.
Switching to the DIVA™ Cup is all about finding a routine that works best for you. Everyone's body is different! Find a comfortable position that keeps your muscles relaxed and helps you insert the DIVA™ Cup horizontally.
Try a few positions and see what feels easiest: sitting on the toilet, or standing with one leg up on the tub or toilet.
Remember: it's all about experimenting, taking your time, and finding what works for your body. You've got this!
Removing your DIVA™ Cup
Take a deep breath and relax your pelvic floor. Remember, it’s your vaginal muscles that hold the DIVA™ Cup in place, so relaxing them makes removal much easier.
Gently pull the stem horizontally until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base to break the seal, then squeeze lightly while wiggling the cup from side to side. As you pull it out, let the top rim collapse slightly by holding it between your thumb and fingers—this makes it easier to slide out comfortably.
Once it’s out, keep your cup upright to prevent spills, then empty it into the toilet.
If you're having trouble removing your DIVA™ Cup, take a deep breath and relax. Tense muscles can pull the cup up, making removal trickier. If you're feeling stuck, take a little break: read a book, go for a walk, or enjoy a warm shower or bath. Giving your muscles time to relax can make removal much easier and more comfortable.
